Mumbai: Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company (KMAMC) has announced the successful final close of its first private credit Alternative Investment Fund (AIF), the Kotak Credit Opportunities Fund, with commitments exceeding ₹2,000 crore. The development marks a major milestone for the company’s alternatives business and highlights the growing investor appetite for private credit in India.
The fund received strong participation from High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs), Ultra-HNIs, family offices, corporate treasuries, and institutional investors. The robust response helped the fund surpass its initial fundraising target, underlining increasing confidence in private credit as an emerging asset class capable of offering structured and flexible financing solutions.
Industry experts believe the strong fundraising reflects a broader shift in investor interest toward alternative investment opportunities beyond traditional equity and debt markets. Private credit, in particular, is gaining traction as Indian businesses seek customized financing options amid evolving market dynamics.
Commenting on the achievement, Nilesh Shah, Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra AMC, said the successful closure represents an important step in strengthening the company’s alternatives platform. He noted that investor confidence in the fund demonstrates trust in KMAMC’s investment philosophy and execution capabilities. Shah added that private credit is expected to play a larger role in India’s financing ecosystem as demand for flexible capital solutions continues to rise.
Sunit Garg, Chief Investment Officer – Private Credit at KMAMC, said the company is encouraged by the strong support from investors. According to him, private credit is steadily emerging as a valuable complement to traditional financing channels by addressing the changing capital requirements of Indian businesses. He added that the fund’s investment approach focuses on performing credit opportunities aimed at delivering stable and predictable returns while maintaining downside protection for investors.
The Kotak Credit Opportunities Fund has already deployed more than 50 percent of its corpus across diversified sectors. The fund plans to continue investing in performing credit opportunities and providing tailored financing solutions to established Indian corporates and promoters.
Kotak Credit Opportunities Fund is a SEBI-registered Category II AIF that focuses on structured credit investments in businesses with proven operating track records. Through its institutional platform, sector expertise, and industry network, KMAMC aims to identify investment opportunities aligned with India’s long-term economic growth while generating risk-adjusted returns for investors.
