The Indian stock market is closed today, Wednesday, November 5, 2025, on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti (Gurpurab). Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain shut for trading across all segments — equities, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts.
According to the official BSE holiday calendar for 2025, this is the only trading holiday in November and the second-last holiday of the year. The final market holiday will fall on December 25, 2025 (Christmas).
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will stay closed for the morning session but will resume operations in the evening session from 5 PM onward.
About Guru Nanak Jayanti
Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. It is a gazetted national holiday observed across India with prayers, processions, and community service.

- Sensex fell 519 points (0.62%) to close at 83,459.15
- Nifty 50 slipped 166 points (0.64%) to end at 25,597.65
- BSE Midcap lost 0.26% and Smallcap dropped 0.69%
Most sectoral indices ended in red, with Nifty Metal and IT down over 1%, while Consumer Durables gained 0.39%. Analysts noted that persistent FII outflows and global uncertainty weighed on investor sentiment.
