Mumbai, August 19, 2026: As India’s cities and infrastructure continue to expand at a rapid pace, the focus on sustainable and climate-resilient development is gaining greater importance. Against this backdrop, the CII–Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) will host the 24th edition of the Green Building Congress (GBC) 2026 from November 26 to 28, 2026, at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.
Themed “Forging a Sustainable Future – Do Good, Feel Good. Building Greener Worlds Together,” the three-day event will bring together government representatives, industry leaders, financial institutions, academia, technology experts and the global green-building community.
The conference will focus on accelerating the adoption of green buildings and scaling solutions that can help India move towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient built environment.
India’s green building movement gains momentum
Over the past 25 years, India’s green-building ecosystem has expanded significantly. According to IGBC, more than 20,000 projects are now registered under its various green-building programmes, covering 16.33 billion sq. ft., making it the second-largest green-building footprint in the world.
The Green Building Congress has also emerged as an important platform for the sector. Over the years, the event has attracted more than 2 lakh participants, bringing together stakeholders from across the green-building value chain.
Speaking ahead of the event, C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, CII–Indian Green Building Council, said India is at a crucial stage of its development journey, with new cities and infrastructure projects expected to shape the country for decades.
He emphasised that the focus should now move beyond simply building more infrastructure to ensuring that development is undertaken responsibly and sustainably. According to him, sustainability needs to become an integral part of development decisions rather than remaining a specialised subject limited to experts.
Reddy said CII–IGBC has spent the last 25 years building awareness and encouraging governments, businesses, professionals and citizens to embrace sustainable development. He added that Green Building Congress provides a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, collaborate and convert sustainability commitments into action.
From individual projects to city-wide transformation
The next phase of India’s green-building journey will require a shift from individual green projects to large-scale transformation across cities and infrastructure, according to AR Unnikrishnan, National Vice Chairman, CII–Indian Green Building Council.
He highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between government, industry, finance, technology and academia, along with wider adoption of high-performance and net-zero solutions.
Unnikrishnan said Green Building Congress 2026 will bring together ideas, innovations and partnerships aimed at accelerating this transition while connecting global expertise with solutions that are scalable and relevant to India.
Major industry participation expected
The 2026 edition is expected to attract 3,000+ delegates, 10,000+ business visitors, 150+ thought leaders and more than 100 institutional and industry partners.
A dedicated Green Building Expo will also showcase technologies, products and solutions supporting sustainable construction and net-zero development.
The scale of the event reflects the growing interest in sustainable infrastructure. The previous edition recorded more than 1,000 B2B meetings and attracted over 8,000 delegates and visitors during the three-day programme.
With India’s construction and urbanisation trajectory continuing to accelerate, Green Building Congress 2026 is positioned as an important platform for discussions around green buildings, net-zero development, climate resilience and the future of sustainable infrastructure in India.
