Mumbai to Host Global Festival ‘Gen O – Pixels & Play’, Showcasing Creativity, Gaming and Youth Innovation

Mumbai | March 17, 2026

Mumbai is set to emerge as a global hub for creativity and digital innovation as it prepares to host ‘Gen O – Pixels & Play’, a four-day international festival from March 19 to 22, 2026 at the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

The event will bring together a diverse mix of creators, innovators, startups, cultural practitioners, and international delegates from over 23 countries, placing the city at the forefront of global discussions on the rapidly growing Orange Economy and the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comics) sector.

Organised by EFlag Corp with support from the Government of Maharashtra, and backed by Maharashtra Tourism as the title sponsor under its “India Maha India” initiative, the festival aims to position the state as a leading destination for next-generation creative industries.

High-Profile Inauguration

The festival will be inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alongside key dignitaries including Tourism Minister Shamburaj Desai and Industries Minister Uday Samant, in the presence of global delegates and industry leaders.

Maharashtra’s Growing Creative Economy

Maharashtra, with Mumbai at its core, continues to strengthen its position as India’s powerhouse for media, entertainment, and digital content. The state’s strong infrastructure, global connectivity, and deep talent pool have enabled it to become a preferred destination for emerging sectors such as animation, immersive media, gaming, and digital storytelling.

The government is actively supporting the AVGC ecosystem through policy initiatives, infrastructure development, and skill-building programmes, aiming to transform Mumbai into a global creative technology hub.

A Platform for the Future of Digital Culture

Gen O – Pixels & Play is designed as a comprehensive platform that brings together multiple facets of the evolving AVGC ecosystem. The festival will spotlight immersive media, gaming, creator-led culture, digital storytelling, and cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of entertainment.

A major highlight of the event will be an international esports championship, featuring national teams from 23 countries across six global regions—underscoring the growing importance of competitive gaming in the global entertainment landscape.

Boost to India’s Creative Industry Vision

The festival aligns with India’s broader push to strengthen its creative economy, including initiatives like the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) announced by the Government of India. These efforts are aimed at positioning India as a global hub for media, entertainment, and digital content industries.

According to industry estimates, India’s AVGC sector is projected to exceed $26 billion by the end of the decade, with demand for nearly two million skilled professionals by 2030.

What to Expect at the Festival

Over four days, the festival will offer a curated mix of experiences, including:

  • Live cultural performances and artistic showcases

  • AVGC-XR innovation and technology demonstrations

  • Startup and creator ecosystem interactions

  • Artisan exhibits celebrating Maharashtra’s cultural heritage

  • Youth-focused sessions exploring careers in creative and digital industries

The event is expected to draw more than 10,000 visitors daily, including students, developers, entrepreneurs, creators, and international participants.

Leadership Perspectives

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s legacy as a centre of creativity and enterprise, noting that platforms like Gen O will foster innovation, global collaboration, and new opportunities for young talent and startups.

Shripad Ashtekar, Founder of EFlag Corp, emphasised that India’s creative and digital sectors are entering a transformative phase. He noted that such platforms aim to recognise emerging talent while inspiring the next generation of creators and innovators.

A Global Meeting Point for Innovation

With participation from across the world, Gen O – Pixels & Play is expected to establish Mumbai as a key global destination for creativity, technology, and digital culture, reinforcing Maharashtra’s role in shaping the future of the global creative economy.
