Tata Capital IPO Listing LIVE: Shares List with Marginal 1% Premium, Analysts Advise ‘Hold for Long Term’

Tata Capital made a muted debut on Dalal Street today, with its shares listing at just a 1% premium over the IPO price of ₹326. The stock opened at ₹330 on both the NSE and BSE, reflecting cautious investor sentiment despite strong brand backing and solid fundamentals.

The ₹15,511.87 crore IPO, which closed on October 9, 2025, witnessed decent participation with an overall subscription of 1.95 times. According to exchange data, investors bid for 65.12 crore shares against 33.34 crore shares on offer.

🔹 Subscription Breakdown

  • Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs): Subscribed 3.42x (32.44 crore shares vs 9.49 crore on offer)
  • Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs): Subscribed 1.98x (14.10 crore shares vs 7.11 crore on offer)
  • Retail Investors: Subscribed 1.10x (18.21 crore shares vs 16.61 crore on offer)

Despite the moderate response, the IPO attracted attention due to Tata Capital’s strong brand equity and its diversified presence across retail, corporate, and housing finance segments.

🔹 Grey Market Sentiment

Ahead of the listing, the grey market premium (GMP) for Tata Capital IPO had slipped to ₹0, hinting at a flat market debut. This trend proved accurate, with shares opening marginally higher but quickly losing gains to trade around the issue price of ₹326.

🔹 Expert View

Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd, commented,

“The listing was in line with muted market expectations. Despite fair valuations compared to peers, tepid subscription reflected cautious investor mood. However, Tata Capital remains a compelling long-term story given its brand, diversified portfolio, and growth potential in India’s expanding NBFC space.”

Analyst Recommendation:

  • Allotted Investors: Hold for the long term, considering strong fundamentals and sectoral potential.
  • Non-Allotted Investors: Adopt a ‘wait and watch’ strategy — consider accumulation on dips.

🔹 Use of IPO Proceeds

As per company filings with SEBI, Tata Capital plans to deploy ₹6,696.60 crore from the IPO proceeds towards future capital requirements for lending operations, aimed at strengthening its balance sheet and supporting growth.

🔹 Key Business Highlights

Tata Capital, the NBFC arm of the Tata Group, operates in lending and non-lending segments. Its lending business caters to retail, SME, and corporate clients, while the non-lending arm handles insurance distribution, wealth management, and private equity fund management.

Brokerages such as Anand Rathi have rated the IPO as ‘Subscribe for Long Term’, valuing it at a P/E of 32.3x and P/B of 3.5x to its FY25 earnings.

In Summary:

  • IPO Price: ₹326
  • Listing Price: ₹330 (1% premium)
  • Current Price: ₹326.95 (down 1%)
  • Total Issue Size: ₹15,511.87 crore
  • Overall Subscription: 1.95x
  • Analyst Verdict: Hold for long term; buy on dips

Tata Capital’s modest listing reflects short-term caution but long-term optimism remains strong given the company’s solid financial base, brand strength, and NBFC sector growth prospects.
