BharatGen Launches ‘Sutra’ AI News Anchor at India AI Impact Summit to Boost News Accessibility

BharatGen has introduced an innovative AI-powered news anchor named Sutra at the India AI Impact Summit, marking a major step towards making news more accessible through advanced technology.
Developed in partnership with the India Today Group and showcased by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Sutra is designed to simplify complex and real-time information by delivering concise insights and contextual summaries from key discussions at the Summit.
The initiative reflects a growing commitment to combining cutting-edge AI with responsible editorial practices. Sutra aims to bridge the gap between policy-level conversations and public understanding by translating critical discussions into clear, easy-to-understand updates for audiences.
Nilanjan Das, Chief AI Officer at India Today Group, said the goal behind Sutra is to bring clarity to today’s fast-moving information ecosystem. He emphasized that the collaboration with BharatGen demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be used to make news more inclusive and accessible without compromising editorial integrity. He also noted that such initiatives contribute to strengthening India’s journey towards sovereign AI capabilities.
Rishi Bal, CEO of BharatGen, highlighted that for AI to truly reshape Indian media, it must evolve beyond automation and develop deep contextual intelligence. He stated that BharatGen is working on sovereign, multimodal AI models capable of understanding the diversity of Indian languages and regional nuances.
According to Bal, the focus is on building a strong indigenous technological foundation that supports storytelling across varied demographics. He added that locally developed AI solutions will ensure the future of Indian journalism remains culturally aware, linguistically inclusive, and powered by homegrown innovation.
